British Columbia’s tourism and hospitality sector is changing quickly, and the way we prepare people for careers in the sector needs to change with it. TIABC, in partnership with post-secondary institutions across British Columbia, is inviting tourism and hospitality industry leaders and businesses to participate in a series of regional roundtables focused on the future of post-secondary tourism and hospitality education. This is not intended to be another conversation about labour shortages where everyone agrees there is a problem and then goes home. The objective of these roundtables is to build a continuing partnership between post-secondary institutions and industry so that education and training programs are closely aligned with the real workforce needs of the sector. We want to better understand the skills, credentials and practical experience employers need from future employees, while also helping post-secondary institutions design programs that prepare students for successful, long-term careers in tourism and hospitality. The goal is to work together to reimagine what tourism and hospitality education in British Columbia should look like and to identify practical ways that industry and post-secondary institutions can innovate together. Post-secondary institutions are looking to connect directly with tourism businesses and sector leaders to better understand what is working, what is missing and what needs to change. Industry, in turn, has an opportunity to help shape the education and training programs that will support the workforce it needs now and in the future. Below, please choose one of the roundtable meeting dates/locations.
