You are invited to participate in a instructor focus group as part of an applied research project led by the Mir Centre for Peace and Selkirk Innovates. We want to learn about instructors’ experiences talking about – or not being able to talk about – controversial topics on campus, whether that’s in the classroom or with your collegues. Is polarization affecting your classroom? Do you notice students self-censoring? Do you want to foster more open inquiry, genuine curiosity, complexity, and nuance in discussions? The focus group involves a small group of participants (instructors) coming together to have an open and confidential conversation with a researcher. It will take about 90 minutes, and it costs nothing. If you can’t join us in person, we will also do focus groups online. We’ll also tell you about future opportunities to develop valuable skills and to practice having constructive dialogue around hot topics in a safe(ish) space with the guidance of a facilitator. We’d love to hear what YOU think! https://selkirk.ca/research-innovation/social-innovation-lab/courageous-dialogues-moving-beyond-polarization
