You are invited to participate in a student focus group as part of an applied research project led by the Mir Centre for Peace and Selkirk Innovates. We want to learn about students’ experiences talking about – or not being able to talk about – controversial topics on campus, whether that’s in the classroom or with your friends. The focus group involves a small group of participants (all students) coming together to have an open and confidential conversation with a researcher. It will take about two hours, and it costs nothing. In fact, if you join an in-person focus group, we’ll throw in a free meal! If you can’t join us in person, we will also do focus groups online. We’ll also tell you about future opportunities to develop valuable skills and to practice having constructive dialogue around hot topics in a safe(ish) space with the guidance of a facilitator. Post-secondary should be a place where we can all freely explore issues from multiple directions and feel comfortable asking questions so we can understand all the sides. If that is something you want more of, please check out the Courageous Dialogues project page and come have a chat with us. We’d love to hear what YOU think! https://selkirk.ca/research-innovation/social-innovation-lab/courageous-dialogues-moving-beyond-polarization
